If you’ve never been to the British Virgin Islands or are looking for an excuse to visit, this itinerary is for you. I recently had the privilege of exploring this sailing paradise aboard the spacious Leopard 50, and I want to share the highlights of my trip. Read on for a day-by-day guide to making the most of your time in the BVI!
Day 1: Trellis Bay and Loose Mongoose
Begin your BVI adventure at Trellis Bay, a charming and laid-back bay known for its artsy vibe and local craft shops. After a scenic sail, head to Loose Mongoose, a popular beachfront bar and restaurant. Enjoy refreshing mimosas and mingle with other travelers while taking in the stunning sunset views. Loose Mongoose offers a delightful mix of local cuisine and fresh seafood, along with a relaxed atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a day of travel.
Day 2: North Sound
Spend your day sailing through the BVI, exploring nearby islands and enjoying the breathtaking scenery. Then, make your way to North Sound, a beautiful and sheltered bay on Virgin Gorda, known for its luxury resorts and stunning landscapes. The water was crystal clear on the beach and a great place to paddleboard or swim should you please. The North Sound area is also home to the famous Bitter End Yacht Club and Saba Rock, both offering fantastic dining and entertainment options. It’s a great place to relax, socialize, and soak in the island vibes.
Day 3: White Bay
Jost Van Dyke is a must-visit island, and White Bay is one of its most iconic beaches. Known for its powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters, it’s the perfect place to spend a day lounging in the sun. Visit Ivan’s Stress-Free Bar, a charming beach bar offering cold drinks and a laid-back atmosphere. While there, enjoy beach games or simply relax in a hammock under the shade of a palm tree. Don’t miss the chance to swim or snorkel in the calm, turquoise waters.
Day 4: Norman Island
Norman Island, often associated with pirate legends, offers a blend of adventure and history. Start your visit with a thrilling jump off the deck of Willy T’s, a floating bar and restaurant known for its lively atmosphere and adventurous spirit. Afterward, you can head to Pirates Bight, a beautiful beachside restaurant and bar offering delicious food and stunning views. The island is also famous for its caves, where you can snorkel and discover an underwater world filled with vibrant marine life. Norman Island is a great spot for those looking to combine relaxation with a touch of excitement.
Day 5: Snorkeling at The Indians & Dining on Peter Island
Begin your day with a snorkeling adventure at The Indians, a group of rocky islets that rise dramatically from the sea. The area is renowned for its excellent snorkeling conditions, offering clear visibility and an abundance of marine life, including colorful fish and corals. After a morning of underwater exploration, set sail to Peter Island, a private island known for its luxury resort and pristine beaches. Enjoy a meal at Ocean’s 7, where you can savor gourmet cuisine while overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea. End your day with a leisurely walk on the beach or a relaxing evening under the stars.
